Overview

The floating village of Kampong Phluk is 28km east of Siem Reap and set among lush, often-flooded mangroves. This fishing village of distinctive stilt houses boasts an ever-changing landscape due to Cambodia's dramatic wet and dry seasons. On this small-goup tour get an up-close view of the lifestyle and culture of this unique Southeast Asian lake community.

Far from being a 'human zoo', the people of Kampong Phluk are, for the most part, thriving and happy to see foreigners. They are always ready with smiles and you'll find the children in particular are friendly and inquisitive. Their lifestyle is sustainable and self-sufficient and tourism is an important part of the local economy.

Our expert Khmer guide will enrich your experience and give you insight into the way of life of these communities. Chilled water is provided throughout, and our charter boats are the perfect way to experience the mighty Tonle Sap!

Kampong Phluk Floating Village
At Kampong Phluk we hop in a boat and explore, taking in the beautiful waterways and charming houses on stilts. In dry season you'll be able to see the watermarks on the beams showing how high the waters rise, and in wet season you'll see the villagers and fishermen going about their business by boat.

Tonle Sap Lake
Going out on the Tonle Sap itself is a deeply calming experience thanks to the still waters meeting the horizon as far as you can see. We round off the day with a drink (and dinner, if you wish) at a traditional floating restaurant to watch the sun set over the lake.
