What To Expect

Kampong Phluk Floating Village
We'll start this tour by driving 25km southeast of Siem Reap town to Kampong Phluk . Although known as a floating village, it's not strictly ture. The houses here don't float, instead they sit on top of tall stilts. There are around 700 families living here and they are 100% ethnic Khmer. They make their living by fishing and farming the local area. Along the way, we'll stop at a beautiful local village to see the rice paddy fields with cows and buffaloes. Most of the houses at Kampong Phluk are on land, built on top of 8m stilts to protect them from flooding in the monsoon season when the water rises. They are made of a special type of wood which is durable in both dry and wet weather. The main houses are made of wood, palm leaves and with a tin roof. You can see floating fish farms, a crocodile farm, house shops and mobile boat shops too. There is also a flooded forest area to visit.

Wat Thmey (Killing Fields)
We'll then head back to Siem Reap town and go to Wat Thmey pagoda. Here is the site of the Siem Reap Killing fields. You can learn about the brutal Khmer Rouge regime headed by the notorious Pol Pot.

Memorable trip

We decided to go on this trip and booked just 2 days before leaving for Cambodia. But it turned out to be the main highlight of our trip to Cambodia. Gent, our guide was excellent. He explained to us in detail the history, culture and way of life in Cambodia. He was very well informed and made our trip a super hit.
This is a trip for anyone who wants to know, understand Cambodia and not just go sightseeing. Will definitely recommend this trip. The floating village was nice but we enjoyed the visit to the war museum and the killing fields.
Great trip

Very happy I booked this tour. My guide Bunpheng is very knowledgeable & helpful. I learned a lot about the history of Cambodia & life here today. Truly eye opening & a lesson for the soul. I highly recommend Angkor Doors Tours. Thank you Pheng for the experience!
Amazing tour with a tour guide who was second to none

We took a full day tour with Angkor Doors with tour guide Bunppeng. We took the boat ride to the floating village, visited the War Museum, the Angkor National Museum, and the Wat Thmey Killing Fields. The sites were all certainly worth the visit and we learned so much about Siem Reap beyond just the temples at Angkor Wat. The service provided by our guide was top-notch. Bunppeng not only provided us with a wealth of information about the sites we were visiting, but also shared much of his own background and family experiences living in and around Siem Reap during the turbulent years since 1975. We were grateful for all he shared with us and for his willingness to answer all our questions. If you're in Siem Reap for a few days and have done the Angkor Wat visit, this tour is a very good add-on that lets you see a lot of things all in one day, but still at a reasonable pace and for a reasonable price. Our family highly recommends this tour. And if you happen to get Bunppeng as your tour guide, then it will be even better.
A different perspective of the Floating Village

This is my second time to Kampong Phluk but the perspective is completely different. The last time I was here was when the water covered the staircase to the house and this time we were able to walk on land. Walking throuh the "floating village" brought us closer to the people. Our guide Peter (Piset) was amazing. He is extremely knowledgable and shared great stories and history at each of the sites. I learned alot about Cambodia's history from 12th century all the way to more recent time. Peter is a living history book!
