Sambor Prei Kuk (Temples Group) is an archaeological site in Cambodia located in Kampong Thom Province, 30 km north of Kampong Thom, the provincial capital, 176 km east of Angkor (Siem Reap City ) and 206 km north of Phnom Penh. This group of temples are were built in late of 6th - 9th century. It's highly to make a day trip from Siem Reap to oldest temples group.

What To Expect

Kbal Spean
If without sunrise after you finish breakfast your guide or driver will pick you up at 7:00 from your hotel. If you decide to see sunrise at ANGKOR WAT and we’ll leave from the hotel at 4:30 but the sunrise is not included on this tour if you would like to do let us know, and meeting point in the hotel lobby and then we heading to ticket office to buy your temples pass. Enjoy the natural beauty as you travel to the temples.

PRASAT BANTEAY SREI The most beautiful, pink sandstone temple with detailed caving. Its 35 kilometers away from grand tour site. Because of its delicate carvings Banteay Srei is also known as “Lady Temple”. You can stop mid-way to see locals making the natural sugar products from the sugar palm. Maybe you have never seen this before so take the opportunity while in this in this area.Before or after visiting Banteay Srei you can stop for lunch to one of the local restaurants nearby.

KBAL SPEAN Kbal Spean “Bridge Head” is 48K from Siem Reap city. At the top of the mountain there is a temple dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu built by King Survarman I and King Udayadit Yavarman II who ruled between 11th and 12th century. You will enjoy your hike if you take your time and look around. In the wet season you will see the waterfall and in summer it is easier to see the figures and depictions carved in the rocks. Your guide can explain the Hindu stories carved in the sandstone at the side of the river. Be sure to look for the 1000 lingams in the stream which are a symbol of Hindu and Shiva gods. Before you start your adventure on Kbal Spean, you can visit the wildlife centre at the foot of the mountain.

NOTE: A reasonable degree of fitness is needed for this hike. Dry season is easier than wet season.

SPEAN PRABTOS is also known as Kampong Kdei Bridge on the National Road 6 from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, used to be the longest corbeled stone-arch bridge in the world, with more than twenty narrow arches spanning 285 ft (87m). The bridge was built in the 12th century during the reign of King Jayavarman VII. It is one of the few Khmer empire era bridges to have survived to the modern day.

Sambor Prei Kuk
PRASAT SAMBOR PREI KUK (Temples Group) is a very old, and rarely visited, temple located a four hour drive from Siem Reap. The nearby Kampong Thom City is an excellent place to spend the night if you want to enjoy a leisurely trip. The drive itself is beautiful, a journey along the lush scenery of the Prey Preas River. Villagers in this area specialize in meals that include crickets, spiders, and frogs as well as sticky rice. The Sambo Prei Kuk temples were the second capital of the Khmer Empire and were built in the 7th Century by King Isanvarman I.

Prasat Yeai Poeun
Prasat Yeay Poan is composed of many brick and laterite temples; they are in the shape of either a rectangle or are octagonal with each decorated with different impressive carvings in the brick called a “Flying Palace”. This temple group is surrounded by an inner wall made of brick, and an outer wall made of laterite with entrance gates in the East and the West, and false gates on the South and North. Inscriptions have confirmed that the temple group was built in the reign of King Ishanavarman I who reigned from 616-637 AD.

Prasat Tao
Prasat Tao was built by Isanavarman I & Jayavarman in the 7th century and situated between Prasat Sambor and Prasat Yeay Poan , Prasat Tao is correspondingly referred to as the Central (or just C) group at Sambor Prei Kuk.The layout is similar to Yeay Poan with a laterite enclosing wall surrounding a large, central shrine and auxiliary towers with additional brick towers within an outer enclosure formed by a 2nd wall. In this case, the remains of 5 structures can be seen around the central tower with a further 8 in the outer section.
