What To Expect

Tonle Sap Lake
Our English-speaking Khmer guide and driver will be waiting for you at your hotel lobby to bring you over to the Tonle Sap Lake. The embarkation point of the lake lies around 15 kilometres south from downtown Siem Reap. Upon arrival, you will be warmly greeted by the captain of a traditional wooden boat, suitable to navigate the often shallow waters and gliding effortlessly through the floating houses that characterise the stature of the lake. The vessel sailing towards the sunset is at your disposal and with a cocktail in one hand and snacks in the other; your guide will explain how life on The Great Lake remains as it is for centuries. It is interesting to know that the lake doubles in size (from 3000 square kilometres to over 7500 square kilometres) once the monsoon season arrives. With so much water and an abundance of freshwater fish, many common things on land are here floating, ranging from restaurants, schools, fruit and vegetable plantations to even a police station.
