Overview

A professional English speaking tour guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to the killing fields of Choeung Ek Genocide Center – 9 miles away south of Phnom Penh. The infamous killing fields have a bloody history. Once an orchard and a Chinese cemetery, the Khmer Rouge, lead by Pol Pot, turned the place into what became known as the killing fields, where they executed around 20.000 victim. Over three years, they massacred and buried 2.5 million people. After remembering the dead, return to Phnom Penh to visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21). Meaning hill of the poisonous trees, Pol Pot turned a once popular high school into a high security prison. 20,000 people were imprisoned there, many of whom were tortured for information. Today it serves as a museum and a reminder of darker days.

Excellent tour guide. He really brought to life the atrocities commited but also helped explained the regime and the history of its leader. He also shared insights and stories of his own experiences from the regime which were humbling. Highly recommend.

This was so memorable! Sam our guide was so knowledgeable and informative. He set just the right tone on this difficult subject. My 13 year old son was able to process it and learn. Great tour.

Everybody should go here - it’s absolutely devastating but so important to learn about. Actually going to the sites where the atrocities occurred and speaking to those with personal experience is so moving.

Chamroaun was our guide and is such an inspirational man. He is so knowledgeable and told us all about the genocide, the events leading up to it and his personal experience. Every question we had, he answered in detail. We have so much respect for him for telling his story, and being so open and honest with us. Make sure to ask for Chamroaun as your tour guide.
